Welcome

Mission City Opera (MCO) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, founded in 1996, dedicated to presenting professional performances of operatic works at affordable prices in intimate productions in English and original languages. MCO is committed to the finest entertainment, to the education of youth and adults in this performing art, and to instill a lasting love for opera in the participants and audience, thereby securing the continuation of opera for generations to come.

MCO provides English supertitles for all operas, to improve dramatic understanding for the audiences, and to tell the plot with intelligible diction and excellent acting and singing, so that the story remains alive and in complete fidelity with the composer’s musical intentions. Our productions are fully staged and performed with our own excellent Mission City Opera Orchestra, chorus, and professional soloists.  We present affordable, intimate, and personal opera of the highest musical quality for contemporary audiences in Silicon Valley.

Our activities encompass:

• Education of children, teens, and adults to the joys of music and theater through special daytime presentations of our shows for school groups*
• Providing talented individuals an education in stagecraft through the Mission City Opera Academy*
• Creative and innovative mainstage productions with full chorus, orchestra, sets, lights, and costumes.
• A Membership newsletter with interesting articles about our productions and our many outreach activities*
• Maintaining an online store for the purchase of opera-related items and tickets for the convenience of our audience*

All are welcome, and encouraged to contact us, volunteer in any capacity, and make a financial contribution to our organization. MCO is a member of the Silicon Valley Arts Coalition, Theatre Bay Area, and the Santa Clara Arts and Historical Consortium. Our company is generously supported by the Cultural Commission of the City of Santa Clara, the Mission City Community Fund, and others.
